Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan has been designated as the chairperson of the 2026 Bar Examinations, according to the High Court.

The announcement was made by Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier during her lecture at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Chief Justice Andres Narvasa Lecture Series on February 15 at the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes OP Building.

Lazaro-Javier, who serves as the chairperson of the 2025 Bar Examinations, also announced that UST will be the national headquarters for the 2025 Bar Examinations, scheduled for September 7, 10, and 14.

The 2025 Bar Exams will be conducted in local testing centers nationwide, covering six core subjects over three days: Political and Public International Law, and Commercial and Taxation Laws on September 7; Civil Law, and Labor Law and Social Legislation on September 10; and Criminal Law, along with Remedial Law, Legal and Judicial Ethics, and Practical Exercises on September 14.

In her lecture, Lazaro-Javier emphasized the vital role of language in the legal profession, in line with the principles set forth in the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA).

“Words are power… The words we choose are more than just placeholders; they set the tone and communicate our respect for others,” she stated.

“Let us use considerate and compassionate language while being conscious of socio-political issues. Let us always think about our reader or audience. Let us see their perspective,” the Associate Justice added.
