The Department of Justice (DOJ) has vowed to strengthen its efforts against illegal drugs through enhanced collaboration with other government agencies, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to a rights-based approach.

“The DOJ pledges to continue stepping up its collaborative efforts with other government agencies to combat illegal drugs and keep our communities safe,” DOJ Sec. Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla stated.

Following a 10.66% drop in drug-related crimes reported by the national police from July 2022 to January 2024, strategies to bolster the campaign against dangerous drugs were discussed during a meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and representatives of law enforcement agencies.

Sec. Remulla emphasized the administration’s focus on addressing the supply side of illegal drugs rather than targeting consumers, aligning with the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) call for strategic action.

“Let me take this opportunity to reiterate that the DOJ is one with the present administration’s ‘Bloodless Drug War,’ and we will always bring our A game in fighting the drug menace by steadfastly upholding the Rule of Law,” Remulla added.

To disrupt the production of illegal drugs within the national penitentiary, Remulla directed Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. to expedite the transfer of high-profile drug convicts to regional prisons.

The meeting also included officials from the DILG, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and Philippine National Police (PNP).
